A New Format For Access Unlimited
To celebrate the New Year, I though it was time to bring Access Unlimited out in a new format. For this edition I have converted the way that we send out the newsletter to use HTML email directly from MS Word 2002. I have done this to (hopefully) make the newsletter easier to read, to reduce issues with super long hyperlinks, because I think most people will have HTML format email readers now and because I need to learn something new.
I hope you like the format and I would like your feedback as it will provide interesting information for all the readers of this newsletter.

PS. The first lesson I learnt is that if you want to include hyperlinks in your html emails, you need to install Office XP Service Packs 1 and 2. Download here
Excel Chart Programming
Michael Kofler from Apress Publishing provides a sample chapter on programming Excel Charts that should be of interest to many AU readers.
Charts constitute the central feature of many Excel applications. This chapter gives a brief overview of the charts supported by Excel and also shows how you can create and print out your own charts under program control. A lengthy example an the subject of automatic data processing and analyzing (using charts) demonstrates various programming techniques. A further topic of this chapter is drawing objects (Shapes), available since Excel 97.

Postcard
from Mongolia
One of the projects that we have been assisting with during the last 6 months is
situated in the Gobi desert, 10 hours drive from Ulaanbataar, the capital of
Mongolia. During Scott’s last visit to site, the temperature was -50
somethings. From that trip, he brought back some digital shots which give you
an idea of the accommodation the exploration team find most suited to this very
harshest of climates.

Folder
Lists
In edition 36 of Access Unlimited, I referred to a tip to show how to list all files in a folder using MS Dos. The readers put together many alternatives which I have detailed tt the following page. Thanks for your input everyone.

The Popup Keyboard
In edition 36 of Access Unlimited I wrote about the popup keyboard in Windows XP.
If you are running Windows XP, you will find a cool little program called the On Screen keyboard. This will allow you to type with your mouse and return the instructions to the last program that had the focus.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\osk.exe
Gustav informs me that this is also available in Windows 2000.
WINDOWS XP IP ADDRESS
If your network connection icon is in the system tray (near the clock in the taskbar), right click on it and click the Status command. Click on the Support tab. You'll see your IP address and other information. If you want even more information, click on the Details button.
Click Start, click Run and type cmd in the Open text box. In the command prompt window, type: ipconfig /all You will see detailed information about your network connections, including your IP address.
